SUMMARY:Tyler Arboretum: Saturday Wildflower Walk
DESCRIPTION:An informative\, guided\, two-hour hike that takes you through meadows\, woods\, and occasionally streamside. These walks are designed for individuals with a passion for plants\, their role in ecology\, or those looking to learn more. Although the focus is on plants\, we will talk about whatever we might see while we are out! In the winter months\, we will focus on identification through seeds\, berries\, foliage\, and branches. \nAll levels of knowledge are welcome. There may be some periods of moderately paced hiking\, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. Feel free to bring a camera and a wildflower guide\, such as Peterson’s Field Guide or Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide\, if you’d like\, and enjoy a botanical-filled walk.

Listen for nighttime sounds\, notice shifting shadows\, and take in the scents of the evening. Look for fireflies along the way as your guide points out their flickering lights\, explains how they communicate\, and shares simple ways you can help fireflies thrive at home. \n\nGates open at 7:45 pm.\nCheck in with the staff associate on the Visitor Center Patio.\nGroup departs from Visitor Center Patio promptly at 8 pm; please arrive on time.\nRestrooms are available at the beginning and end of the program.\n\nWhat to expect: \n\nGuided leisurely paced walk on uneven terrain in low light and dark conditions\nChanges in walking surfaces\, including pavement\, grass\, gravel\, and wooded trails\nPossible short sections of steep trail\nOpportunities to observe fireflies\nSuitable for adults and youth comfortable walking up to 1.5 miles on uneven terrain\n\nWhat to wear & carry: \n\nSturdy\, closed-toe shoes or hiking boots with good tread\nWeather-appropriate clothing\nFlashlight\nInsect repellent (please apply at home)\nWater bottle\n\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
