DESCRIPTION:An informative\, guided\, two-hour hike that takes you through meadows\, woods\, and occasionally streamside. These walks are designed for individuals with a passion for plants\, their role in ecology\, or those looking to learn more. Although the focus is on plants\, we will talk about whatever we might see while we are out! In the winter months\, we will focus on identification through seeds\, berries\, foliage\, and branches. \nAll levels of knowledge are welcome. There may be some periods of moderately paced hiking\, so wear comfortable hiking shoes. Feel free to bring a camera and a wildflower guide\, such as Peterson’s Field Guide or Newcomb’s Wildflower Guide\, if you’d like\, and enjoy a botanical-filled walk.

DESCRIPTION:ADULTS & CHILDREN AGES 5+  \n\n\nUse a compass to find your way through increasingly challenging courses. At the end of the day\, take your compass home along with new confidence in your wayfinding skills! \nAbout your instructor: Tyler Arboretum Educator Erin Conway might not be able to remember road names\, but after a season of helping lost hikers in Maine’s backcountry\, she’s confident she can teach you how to find your way around Tyler’s 650 acres. Just don’t ask her which highway to take to get here! \n\n\nWhat to expect:   \n\n\n\nRain or shine. In the event of dangerous conditions (i.e.\, thunderstorms)\, an alternative version of the class will be held indoors\, and you can return at a later date to try the outdoor courses.\nMeet at the Visitor Center.\nHike up to 1.5 miles to reach and complete all the courses\, the more difficult of which will be off-trail.\nSeveral smaller courses will be set for the youngest wayfinders.\nThis is not a stroller-friendly program; if you are bringing a child ages 2 and under\, please use a carrier.\n\nWhat to bring: \n\n\n\nDress for the weather. \nSturdy shoes and long pants for walking off-trail\n\nPRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Please note: This program is designed for children ages 5+\, but feel free to bring younger siblings.  No need to register children 4 and under. Younger children will likely need a helping hand while sharing an adult’s compass.

Hear the calls\, spot the birds\, and experience this Audubon-recognized Important Bird Area firsthand. \n\nGates open at 7:45 am.\nThe group leaves promptly from the parking lot at 8:10 am.\nPlease arrive on time.\nCheck in with your guide in the parking lot.\nRestrooms will be open.\n\nWhat to expect: \n\nAll levels of birding experience welcome.\nWe will be walking at a slow\, birders’ pace.\nWalking surfaces that include pavement\, grass\, gravel\, and uneven trails.\nChanges in grade\, including possible hills.\nWalks are rain or shine.\n\nWhat to wear & carry: \n\nDress in layers for the weather\nHiking boots or shoes with good tread\nBinoculars (recommended)\nWater and snacks\n\nPRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED
