Day 1:

Start your day with breakfast at your hotel, fueling up for a day of historic exploration. Your first stop is the Colonial Pennsylvania Farmstead, just a short 25-minute drive from Ridley. This interactive site offers a glimpse into 18th-century farm life, complete with costumed interpreters demonstrating early farming techniques and life on the frontier.

Afternoon:

For lunch, continue to enjoy Ridley Creek State Park, where you can enjoy a peaceful picnic (pre-ordered and packed from regional favorite Wawa or other great lunch spots) amidst the park’s scenic woodlands. After lunch, visit Brandywine Battlefield Park (20 minutes away). This historic site commemorates the 1777 Battle of Brandywine, one of the key engagements of the American Revolution. Explore the visitor center and walk the battlefield, learning about this pivotal moment in American history.

Next, take a short drive to Newlin Grist Mill, where you’ll step back in time to experience one of the oldest working mills in the region. Take a guided tour of the property and learn about the mill’s role in both the local economy and the broader history of the area.

Evening:

As the day winds down, head to the Delaware County Veterans Memorial for a moment of reflection. This beautifully landscaped memorial honors the brave men and women who served in the armed forces.

Day 2:

Discovering Philadelphia’s Historic Core

Morning:

After breakfast at your hotel, start your second day with a drive by William Penn’s Landing Site along the Delaware River. This historically significant location marks where William Penn arrived in 1682 and laid the foundation for the city of Philadelphia.

Next, make your way into Historic Philadelphia (25 minute drive) to visit some of the country’s most iconic landmarks. Begin with Independence Hall*, where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. Then, take in the Liberty Bell, a symbol of American independence, before concluding your visit at the Museum of the American Revolution (MoAR). The museum brings the story of the Revolution to life with engaging exhibits and artifacts.

Afternoon:

For lunch, head out to Valley Forge National Historical Park (a 35–50 minute drive), where you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the park. Walk in the footsteps of George Washington and his troops as you explore this significant site from the American Revolution. Learn about the hardships faced during the winter encampment of 1777–1778 and how the Continental Army emerged stronger from their time here.

Evening:

End your day with a visit to Old St. David’s Church, a historic Episcopal church in Wayne, PA known for its beautiful architecture and long-standing connection to the local community.

For your final evening, enjoy dinner and a leisurely stroll in Wayne, a charming town known for its quaint shops, inviting restaurants, and picturesque setting.
