So, whether you’re coming from another part of Delco, popping over from Philly, or visiting from further afield, we’ve got you covered with some of the best places to fuel up, celebrate (or commiserate) and unwind after a day of golf in the sunshine.
Start the day strong with a perfectly toasted bagel, baked fresh on the premises, with house-made flavored cream cheese from Rolling Stars. Or, for heartier breakfast fare, you can’t go wrong with the Power Protein Wrap, with scrambled egg whites, turkey, onion, spinach and peppers on a whole wheat wrap, or a breakfast platter. At lunchtime, try one of the house specialty sandwiches, like the The Eagles, made with honey-roasted turkey, Swiss cheese, tomato, avocado, and honey mustard, or a garden fresh salad. Service is quick, and you can eat in, or order ahead to-go.

When you’re in the area, you’ve got to try an authentic Philly cheesesteak! The newest addition to Delco’s excellence cheesesteak scene is Cleaver’s Philadelphia, a top-notch spot in Center City Philly that recently opened a second location in Newtown Square. Its cheesesteaks start with high-quality ribeye which you can get straight up on a seeded roll, or try one of its creative variations, like the Effin Hot, with hot cherry pepper relish, fried onions, cooper American cheese and sriracha aioli. The menu goes beyond steaks, with grilled chicken and chicken cutlet sandwiches, salads and even vegetarian cheesesteaks!

Looking for no-frills sushi for a protein-packed lunch or quick dinner? Try Wasabi 4, a casual Asian-fusion eatery with an ample menu of familiar favorites. In addition to plenty of sushi, maki and sashimi options, there are dozens of chef’s special rolls, some of which are quite inventive! We like the Out of Control roll, with spicy salmon, fresh salmon, yellowtail, avocado and spicy mayo with crunch on top. Snacky appetizers, noodle and rice dishes, teriyaki entrees, and Chinese-American dishes round out the menu.

Nifty Fifty’s is always a big hit with the little ones; in fact, it’s one of our favorite spots in Delco to take kids! From the throwback neon, black-and-white checker motif and big booths to the unreal number of milkshake flavors, it’s a winner every time. The menu, which leans toward nostalgic classics, offers a wide variety of burgers, cheesesteaks, chicken sandwiches and Coney Island-style hot dogs and chicken nuggets. Don’t leave without an order of onion rings!

There is truly something for everyone at Fresco Pizza & Grille, which has been serving the Newtown Square community for almost two decades! The extensive menu of course includes pizzas and other Italian-American dishes, like pepperoni stromboli, sauteed mussels, and fettuccine bolognese, but it also has some unexpected twists, like savory birria tacos and Mediterranean-style kabobs. There’s also a nice kids’ menu with a selection of affordable, picky-eater-approved dishes. Dine in or grab a table on the outdoor deck!

If a gastropub is your preferred post-golf destination, head to Casey’s Public House. Find a few stools at the well-worn bar, or grab a table on the breezy outdoor patio and settle in for a night of cold beer and elevated food. Share a few apps, like the fried pickles, cheesesteak egg rolls or nachos before tucking into a house favorite, such as fish and chips, a patty melt, or a Nashville fried chicken sandwich.

Al fresco dining is better with a craft beer in hand! Sedona Taphouse is where you can accomplish just that; its draft and bottle list is delightfully well-stocked with crisp pilsners, light wheat beers, hoppy pale ales, malty lagers and everything in between. The menu goes beyond pub fare, with vegetable-forward salads, wood-fired entrees and generous portions of pasta to enjoy for dinner. Sedona is also on our list of great local happy hours, with half-off bottles and cans of craft beer, $6 house-brewed drafts and deals on sangria and margaritas, plus discounted food every Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

After a day in the sun, duck into The Ale House to catch a Phillies game over a frosty pint or two and a plate of spicy wings or a giant Bavarian pretzel. Friendly service and an unpretentious vibe are the specialty here. For larger plates, you can’t go wrong with the hand-carved beef sandwich: with tender beef piled high on a soft roll and smothered with cheese, and a side of broccoli rabe, it’s beloved by the locals. For discounted brews and apps, swing through during happy hour, Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.

At La Scala’s Fire, the outdoor seating area is almost as large as the indoor restaurant! With full roof coverage, heaters, TVs and a dedicated bar, it’s as deluxe as outdoor dining gets. The Newtown Square outpost of this local chain offers a lively atmosphere and unique Italian-American plates, ranging from a honey-drizzled ricotta board to Calabrian Brussels sprouts to pizza topped with short rib. In addition to well-rounded beer and wine lists, La Scala’s Fire excels in cocktails; a Moscow Mule, Aperol Spritz or Cucumber Basil Gimlet would really hit the spot at the end of the day!

NAPA Kitchen and Wine, a newcomer to Newtown Square, brings some Northern California flair to Delco. Seasonally driven, inventive fare draws on global flavors; think: pork belly burnt ends, shrimp tempura sushi, togarashi butter-roasted oysters and flat iron steak with chimichurri. On the beverage menu, the craft cocktails, sake, and wine lists are some of the most extensive in the area. Ready to splash out? The “Very Special Wine List” of rare and unique bottles is fun to explore.
If you’re at the PGA Championships on Thursday or Friday, enjoy happy hour pricing on select cocktails, sushi rolls and freshly shucked oysters from 4 to 6 p.m.!

Whether you’re in the mood for an espresso martini, a robust glass of Chianti, or a Pennsylvania-made IPA, the drinks selection is well-curated. For dinner, try an array of appetizers from the a la carte menu (fritto misto, tuna tartare and West Philly baked clams are a good start), followed by a wood-fired pizza or beautifully plated pasta.
