There’s no shortage of great coffee shops in Delco, which is a pretty great problem to have! From lively neighborhood cafes to serious coffee roasters, there’s always somewhere new to try.

We’ve already explored coffee shops in western and central Delco, but there are plenty more worth checking out on the eastern side of the county. This time, we’re heading from Havertown and Lansdowne through Drexel Hill, Ridley Park and Norwood, with plenty of stops in between. Get ready to explore a few more of Delco’s welcoming third spaces!

As its name suggests, there are plenty of coffee drinks on the menu at Espresso Coffee Shop, a cafe tucked into the Brookline neighborhood of Havertown. In addition to the usual suspects, like drip coffee, cappuccinos and Americanos, there is also an extensive food menu, with breakfast and brunch dishes (fancy toasts, egg sandwiches, bagels and omelets), and lunch options aplenty (hoagies, wraps, salads, etc.)! Word has it the caprese avocado toast, with tomato, feta, basil and a balsamic glaze, is not to be missed.

Book lovers, coffee lovers and plant lovers will find plenty to enjoy at The Bookery Coffeehouse, a charming cafe and bookshop next door to Plant Roots in Havertown. The coffee menu includes all the classics, along with seasonal specialty drinks and locally roasted House Cup Coffee. The Bookery Latte—a gently sweet combination of espresso, milk, honey and cinnamon—is a fan-favorite, while the rotating seasonal menu brings fun options, like pumpkin spice, cardamom maple and pecan toffee lattes. Pick up a book, grab a latte, and settle in.

House Cup Coffee Roasters started in a Havertown backyard shed in 2017 and has grown into a beloved neighborhood coffee shop and roastery. The shop roasts Fair Trade organic coffee daily, offering everything from approachable blends to single-origin beans, and you can enjoy them in the cafe, or take a bag home, ground to order. There’s also a menu of house-made sandwiches and salads, locally made pastries, and seasonal hot and cold drinks. Bonus: Bring your own mug for a $1 coffee, and teachers get theirs for free!

2116 Darby Rd., Havertown; (484) 424-9330.

Bean Ability Café is about so much more than coffee. Opened through a partnership with Emmaus Home, this welcoming Drexel Hill cafe provides adults with disabilities opportunities to develop workplace skills and gain meaningful employment, while creating a place for the broader community to connect. Stop in for coffee, tea, smoothies, bagels and other cafe favorites, and check the schedule for live music on many Saturday mornings. It’s a great place to support while you’re enjoying your coffee.

Located right in the heart of Lansdowne, Camellia Coffee House brings a much-needed third space to the surrounding area. With both counter seating and tables inside its pretty space and a menu stacked with both standard unique coffee drinks (like the seasonal squash-maple spiced latte), you’ll frequently find locals here studying, working and just hanging out. On the food side of the menu, there is a curated selection of bites, like muffins, cookies and pastries (including must-try Portuguese pasteis de nata), as well as biscuit sandwiches, salads and focaccia pizza.

20 N. Lansdowne Ave., Lansdowne; (484) 898-5592.

If you love an old-school breakfast spot, check out Hibernian Coffee Shop in Drexel Hill. A sort of deli/diner hybrid, this no-frills restaurant is known for its traditional Irish breakfast and its selection of imported Irish groceries, like candy and soft drinks. Find a seat in one of the small booths and order from the menu, which includes American, Mexican and Irish breakfast dishes, including pancakes and French toast, huevos rancheros, and bangers and mash.

3711 Garrett Rd., Drexel Hill; (610) 626-7370.

AFAF Coffee is a great example of a coffee shop that takes its beans seriously, without taking itself too seriously. The Ridley Park cafe roasts its own coffee and uses those beans in an extensive lineup of espresso drinks. There are also frappes, immunity and protein drinks, pastries and Moroccan msemen (stuffed flatbread sandwiches) when you need something to eat with your morning pick-me-up. Keep an eye out for the shop’s specialty drinks and seasonal offerings, like brown sugar shaken espresso and strawberry matcha lattes.

Ardour Bakery + Coffee, a family-owned European-style bakery and cafe, keeps things simple but scrumptious with coffee and freshly baked pastries. Just a handful of espresso drinks are available, though they can be customized with a wide range of flavor syrups, as well as a few seasonal specialty lattes, like the lavender white chocolate mocha. The pastries are a must; choose from croissants (there are at least eight varieties), turnovers, donuts, scones, danish and muffins. Dessert lovers will want to try the cakes, cannoli, tarts and macarons! Savory sandwiches are also on offer.

119 E. Sellers Ave., Ridley Park; (610) 521-0450.

Philly-based coffee company Elixr Coffee has brought its serious coffee credentials to Norwood with a tiny shop on Winona Avenue. Elixr is known for sourcing distinctive coffees and roasting them on the lighter side to highlight their individual flavors, so this is a great stop for anyone who likes to geek out a little over their morning brew. Try one of the current single-origin coffees, a carefully prepared espresso drink, or a potent cold brew.

26 W. Winona Ave., Norwood; no phone.
